‘Rick and Morty’ shines as an action anime

Rick and Morty take a swim … to Japan!

“Rick and Morty: The Anime” (Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment) is a reinterpretation of the classic Rick and Morty science-fiction animated series as an action anime.

Rick and Morty

This brand-new title, available on Blu-ray or DVD, is a 10-episode series that follows Rick, Morty, and the rest of the Smith family in a new intergalactic adventure.

And it’s always an adventure with this crew.

Morty gets entangled with a mysterious girl who doubles as an atemporal being, Rick chills out in a pseudo-world between multiverses, and Summer helps Space Beth fight the evil Galactic Federation.

Other titles

4K in honor of 40 years? Maybe that’s the motivation behind the release of “Pale Rider: 40th Anniversary Edition” (Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment), starring Clint Eastwood, on 4K. But that’s not all, Warner also is releasing two other Eastwood titles on 4K: “Dirty Harry” and “The Outlaw Josey Wales.” What’s sweet is a great mix of new special features mixed with previously released special features on all three titles.

“Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League” (Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment) marks the sequel to the 2018 anime feature film “Batman Ninja.” This all-news feature film showcases the characters from DC and reimagined by Japan’s finest artists. Batman and his friends battle familiar faces transformed into villains in an alternate universe to desperately save Gotham. Bonus features include Bringing Justice to Japan and Anime Action: Choreographing the Fights.

“The Art of Nothing” (Icarus Films) follows an artist who leaves his job in Brussels as a professor to settle in Normandy and give artwork a try. Of course, the film is about much more than this. The protagonist meets the townspeople, including gallery owners and potential love interests, in his quest for inspiration and happiness.

“Abbott Elementary: The Complete Third Season” (Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment) proves that school never has a dull moment, at least not with this hilarious staff. Actors Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, William Stanford Davis, and Sheryl Lee Ralph seem born to play their parts. In all the hilarity, the season ends with a heartfelt end-of-year celebration.

“Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth with Bill Moyers” (Film Movement) is the Blu-ray release of one of the most popular series in the history of public television. This landmark 1988 PBS series features mythologist and storyteller Campbell joining journalist Bill Moyers in exploring what enduring myths can tell us about our lives. The six episodes are: The Hero’s Adventure, The Message of Myth, The First Storytellers, Sacrifice and Bliss, Love and the Goddess, and Masks of Eternity. Bonus features are: Bill Moyers’ Journal Episodes: Joseph Campbell: Myths to Live By: Parts 1 and 2, the 55-minute featurette The Mythology of Star Wars with Bill Moyers and George Lucas, and a 24-page companion booklet featuring an extremely rare essay by Campbell plus additional reading materials from the Joseph Campbell Foundation.
